Makhachkala residents help protesting Afghan War veterans

Residents of the houses located near the Makhachkala park, where already for 14 days several dozens of Afghan War veterans demand a meeting with the head of Dagestan Vladimir Vasiliev, by bringing food and water to them. The veterans intend not to stop their action until their demand is satisfied.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on September 17-25, veterans of the Afghan War held a hunger strike in the Makhachkala park, demanding the provision of the due housing. According to their stories, they had been deprived of their chances to get on the preferential waiting list for housing; and they want to ask Mr Vasiliev to help to change the legislation.

Gasaini Gasainiev, a veteran of the Afghan War, said that the protesters had received no invitation to the head of the republic.

Murshid Abdulguseinov, the chairman of the Union of Afghan War veterans of the Derbent District, has noted that there are 162 war veterans in the district; but none of them received housing.
