In Quarter 1 of 2019, four persons fell victim to the armed conflict in Dagestan

In the period from January 1 to March 31, 2019, at least four persons fell victim to the armed conflict in Dagestan. These are the results of the calculations run by the "Caucasian Knot" based on its own materials and information from open sources.

All the victims were casualties; nobody was wounded. All the casualties were announced to be militants; there was no information about any losses among law enforcers and civilians.

On January 11, three alleged militants were killed in an attack on the road-and-patrol traffic police post in the Karabudakhkent District. The Russian National Antiterrorist Committee (NAC) has declared that those killed had been recruiters of the "Islamic State" (IS), a terrorist organization, banned in Russia by the court.

On February 19, in the Derbent District, during a counterterrorist operation (CTO), in the outskirts of the village of Belidzh, an alleged member of an illegal armed formation (IAF) was killed. The NAC reported that the casualty had prepared a terror act.

Let us remind you that in Quarter 1 of 2018, in Dagestan, 17 people fell victim to the armed conflict.

In general, in 2018, in Dagestan, at least 49 people suffered from the armed conflict – the main casualties were among militants, same as in 2017. Over the year, the number of victims among law enforcers and civilians went down. In 2018, the total number of victims, as compared with 2017, decreased by 10.9%.
