Organization of madrasah in Dagestan village results in conflict with law enforcers

The Imam from the village of Novosasitli and local residents, dissatisfied with the decision to hand over the madrasah to the Muftiate, are being kept by law enforcers, sources report. They said that among the detainees, there is Rasul Asad, the author of a popular Telegram channel.

The Imam from the village of Novosasitli turned to a division of a power structure because of a conflict around the madrasah with the Spiritual Administration of Muslims (SAM, or Muftiate) of Dagestan, Ziyautdin Uvaisov, the chairman of the Bar Association "Tradition", wrote on the Facebook.

According to his story, SAM officials had persuaded the Imam not to conduct polling.

"After a namaz (prayer), the Imam asked the villagers about who of them was supporting the transfer of the village madrasah to the SAM. The vast majority voted against," said Uvaisov, noting that after the voting the Imam turned to the above power division.

Law enforcers detained Imam Magomed Aigubov and about 20 Novosasitli villagers, including the author of the Telegram channel "Ask Rasul".
