In Azerbaijan, mothers of persons sentenced in case on riots in Ganja hold protest march

On August 28, at a protest action held in front of the presidential administration of Azerbaijan, mothers of the men arrested in the "Ganja case" demanded to release their children.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on August 21, the mothers of the arrested men tried to hold an action in Baku in support of their sons. Law enforces disrupted the action and detained one of its participants.

The law enforcement bodies called an assassination attempt on Elmar Veliev, the head of the Ganja administration, committed on July 3, 2018, a terror act and detained Yunis Safarov, a native of Ganja. On July 10, 2018, about 200 people took part in a protest rally in Ganja and demanded to conduct an investigation into the activities of Elmar Veliev. Two policemen were killed while dispersing the rally.

According to the agency "Turan", several dozen women claimed that their children were arrested on fabricated charges.

Parents of the arrested persons regularly hold similar protest actions in Baku and Ganja, and thanks to their perseverance, several convicts enjoyed mitigation of their prison sentences, the "Echo of the Caucasus" reports.

Let us remind you that on August 26, in Baku, the court softened the punishment for eight persons sentenced participating in the riots in Ganja.
