After cancellation of meeting with Pashinyan, gold mining opponents appoint protest action

The meeting of opponents of gold mining at the Amulsar mine with the Prime Minister, Nikol Pashinyan, was postponed because of the workload of the Armenian Premier, activists have reported. Residents of the city of Jermuk said they would hold a one-day strike demanding to ban the exploitation of the goldfield.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on August 14, the Investigating Committee (IC) of Armenia published the conclusion of an international expert group, according to which the environmental risks during the operation of the Amulsar mine are minimal. On August 15, activists stated that the IC had presented wrong results of the ecological examination. They demanded a personal meeting with Nikol Pashinyan to present him with their research results.

The meeting with Nikol Pashinyan did not take place, as he referred to his busy schedule, Khachatryan, an activist, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, adding that an assistant to the Premier promised to set the date for the meeting within a few days.

On August 16, a one-day strike will be held in Jermuk, at which activists will demand to ban any further development of the Amulsar mine, Arthur Grigoryan, a resident of Jermuk, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
