Gvaramiya's defence appeals against bail

An advocate has appealed against the ruling of the Tbilisi City Court, which had set up a bail as a freedom restriction measure for Nika Gvaramiya, a former director general of the "Rustavi-2" TV Company.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on August 9, Nika Gvaramiya was summoned to the General Prosecutor's Office, and he was formally charged under the article on using the power of the director to gain profit, which entailed significant damage. On August 11, the Tbilisi City Court partially granted the motion of the General Prosecutor's Office and pronounced the bail of 40,000 laris (more than 13,000 US dollars) as a pre-trial restriction measure.

On August 11, the Tbilisi City Court partially granted the motion of the Prosecutor's Office and appointed a bail of 40,000 laris (over USD 13,000) as the freedom restriction measure for Mr Gvaramiya, who, however, refused to pay the bail.

On August 13, his advocate, Dmitry Sadzaglishvili, filed a complaint to the Tbilisi Court of Appeal, in which he demanded to cancel the bail. He justified his demand by the fact that the Prosecutor's Office had handed over to the court six volumes of Gvaramiya's criminal case, but they failed to contain the documents, used by the judge when defining the freedom restriction measure.

"In confirmation of his assumption that Gvaramiya could commit a crime, the judge indicated the documents, which he had not physically seen," the advocate, whose words were translated by the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, said on air of the "Rustavi-2" TV Company.
