Because of criminal case in Russia, journalist Abdurakhmanov is illegal person in Turkey

Rashid Abdurakhmanov, a Dagestani journalist living in Istanbul complained about the blocking of his accounts in Russia and could not extend his foreign passport, as he became a suspect in a criminal case. The blocking of bank accounts in Russia is used as a sort of an extrajudicial punishment, analysts assert.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Russian authorities cancelled Abdurakhmanov's disability pension, since law enforcer treat him as linked with Syrian militants. The journalist himself states his guilt has not been proved by the court, but his accounts in Russia have been blocked.

His move to Turkey in 2013 was caused by security considerations and had to do with the increasing pressure on religious freedoms in Russia, Rashid Abdurakhmanov has explained.

Rashid Abdurakhmanov is known among Russian Muslims for his translations of lectures and sermons from Arabic into Russian.

The journalist claims that he has committed no crimes. According to his story, an ex-policeman has explained to his mother that the criminal case was opened against him because Abdurakhmanov covered the activities of the preacher, Abu Umar Sasitlinsky.
