Case of eight Dagestanis killed in Chechnya brought to court

The Supreme Court (SC) of Chechnya began to consider the case of eight Dagestani residents, who, according to the law enforcement bodies, were plotting a terror act and were killed in a shootout. Relatives of the killed suspects demanded to unite the cases on the shootout in Chechnya and on kidnappings in Dagestan.

Andrei Sabinin, a lawyer from the "Agora", reports that the relatives of the killed suspects insist on consideration of the case in Dagestan.

According to the "Kavkaz.Realii", the defence suggests that "the assessment of the incident voiced by Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov exerts pressure on the trial."

In the autumn of 2016, four employees of the Chechen Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), who got slight injuries, were put forward to state awards. Ramzan Kadyrov said that "by risking their lives, they neutralized particularly dangerous gangsters," the RIA "Novosti" reported.

Since October 2016, relatives of the disappeared residents of Dagestan held protests and demanded from the authorities to answer questions concerning the fate of their relatives and friends.

In 2016, the examination showed that the DNA samples of six out of eight suspects killed in Chechnya coincided with the DNA samples of the relatives of the men kidnapped in Dagestan, including Gashim Uzdanov, Islam Magomedov, Kamil Djamalutdinov, Klych Klychev, Gosen Gosenov, and Shamil Djamalutdinov, reported the "Mediazone" in December 2018.

In May 2018, experts confirmed the blood relations of the suspects killed in Chechnya and the relatives of the men kidnapped in Dagestan.

The relatives demanded to unite the cases under investigation in Chechnya and Dagestan into one proceeding "as the crimes committed by one group of persons."
