NGO points to violations of protesters' rights in Tbilisi
The non-governmental organization (NGO) named "Association of Young Georgian Lawyers" has stated mass human rights violations by law enforcers during the dispersal of the protest action held in front of the parliament building in Tbilisi. The opposition was preparing a coup d'état, Giorgi Gakhariya, the Interior Minister, has stated explaining the police's actions.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on June 21, law enforcers dispersed protesters outside the parliament building in Tbilisi. The Ministry of Public Health reported hospitalization of 240 people. The Georgian Centre for Human Rights Education and Monitoring noted that the protesters themselves forced policemen to start dispersing the action, but law enforcers were excessively aggressive and used their special means without due reason.
According to the head of the above NGO, the report will consider whether the rights to a peaceful assembly were violated. Besides, the Association will study the use of excessive force during detentions.
On June 9, at his meeting with political analysts and NGO activists, Giorgi Gakhariya, spoke about the dispersal of the protest action, the "Sputnik-Georgia" reports.
According to Amiran Salukvadze, an analyst on military-political issues, Gakhariya pointed to a large number of passes into the parliament, issued by MPs from oppositional parties on June 20, as a proof of the prepared coup d'état.
