Aidyn Gurbanov's wife accuses Azerbaijani law enforcers of her husband's death

The wife of Aidyn Gurbanov, who was arrested within the case of riots in the Azerbaijani city of Ganja, will appeal in court law enforcers' actions, who had failed to release her husband despite his grave illness.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Aidyn Gurbanov, arrested within the case of mass riots in Ganja riots, was provided with no treatment in custody and fell into coma at the last phase of his cancer. The investigator refused to change his freedom restriction measure.

"Aidyn had a few days left to live, but the investigator asked to wait until the trial, which was supposed to start in two or three weeks. It's just inhuman," the woman said.

If the deceased had received no due quality treatment in custody, relatives can apply to the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR), the lawyer, Yalchin Imanov, has stated. According to his story, a similar decision was taken by the ECtHR in Novruzali Mamedov's case, who died in a prison hospital in 2009.

Ogtai Gyulyalyev, the coordinator of the Committee against Repressions and Torture, has blamed the authorities for Gurbanov's death. He treats the fact that Gurbanov was not allowed to spend the last days of his life with his family as an act of inexplicable cruelty.

Let us remind you that, according to the Centre for the Protection of Political Prisoners, overall, 51 persons have faced trial within the "Ganja case"; by March 30, 2019, 14 of them had been convicted.
