OSCE resolution actualizes legal problem of Abkhazia and South Ossetia

The resolution of the OSCE (Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe) on Abkhazia and South Ossetia will not force Russia to reconsider the recognition of the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia, but is a factor of diplomatic pressure on the Kremlin, Georgian political analysts assert.

The resolution states the need to support the territorial integrity of Georgia and expresses concern that the jurisdiction of Georgia fails to cover the territories of Abkhazia and South Ossetia.

Russia is also urged to withdraw its troops from the territory of Georgia and "stop human rights violations in Abkhazia and South Ossetia," including "kidnappings and torture."

The resolution has recalled the problem of the Georgia's territorial integrity, said Mamuka Zhgenti, the founder of the Georgian Institute of European Values. According to his story, it cannot be solved without the support of the international community.

The resolution reflects the fundamental legal demands, "which were grossly violated by Russia," Irakli Menagarishvili, an expert of the Georgian Foundation for Strategic and International Studies, believes.

The resolution draws attention of the international community to the problem of human rights in Abkhazia and South Ossetia, said Valery Chechelashvili, another expert of the Georgian Foundation for Strategic and International Studies.
