HRC "Memorial" succeeds in seeking mitigation of law on pickets in Adygea
After the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial" had appealed to the Prosecutor's Office, the authorities of Adygea cancelled the restrictions contradicting the law concerning the venues of solo pickets.
In the Russian Federation, the law on rallies allows the regions to impose their own territorial restrictions on holding rallies. In some subjects of the federation, those restrictions were also extended to solo pickets, and therefore, the HRC "Memorial" requested the General Prosecutor's Office to check the regional laws of such subjects, including Adygea, for compliance with the federal legislation.
As a result, the Prosecutor's Office of Adygea developed a bill to amend the law and suggested that the parliament would lift the restrictions on solo pickets. The law comes into force on July 18.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that officials from Adygea criticized a federal bill on the study of native languages. According to them, the provision on the voluntary nature of the study of local languages in the national republics contradicts the Constitution of the Russian Federation.
