Court takes side of Ingush female activist in case of police disobedience

The police demanded to revise the judgement that acquitted the activist, Angela Matieva, in the case of disobedience to law enforcers. However, the Ingush Supreme Court (SC) has upheld the judgement, the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial" has reported.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on June 7, the court found Matieva guilty of violating the order of organizing or holding a rally, and fined her by 10,000 roubles. According to another article, on disobedience to lawful demands of law enforcers, Matieva was acquitted due to the insignificance of her offense.

The proof of Matieva's guilt was in the video clip about the last October rally in Magas, where she appears in the video for a few seconds, another activist, Isabella Evloeva, said. They had wanted to attract Matieva under the article on disobedience to law enforcers, because on June 1, during the action on the Day in Children's Defence, she refused to follow a policeman to a police station. Ms Matieva has explained that they had agreed with the policeman to communicate on the spot.

Let us remind you that Matieva was dismissed from the "Ingushneft" (a "Rosneft" subsidiary) company after she took part in a rally against the border agreement with Chechnya in December 2018. According to Matieva, she lost her job for political reasons. The court refused to reinstate her.
