Tbilisi protesters complain about ignoring hunger-strikers

Outside the parliament building in Tbilisi, three persons continue their protest hunger strike demanding resignation of the head of the Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), but no one cares about them, protesters have stated. Meanwhile, the spokeswoman of the "Georgian Dream" Party said that there are no complaints about Minister Giorgi Gakhariya's actions during the dispersal of protesters' rally.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that after the June 20 scandal with the Russian delegation in the Georgian Parliament, protests are held in Tbilisi on the everyday basis. Protesters have managed to achieve the resignation of the Speaker of the Parliament and holding the 2020 elections under the proportional system; their last demand to dismiss the Interior Minister Giorgi Gakhariya still remains ignored. The June 30 rally stated that Gakhariya was trying to evade responsibility for the dispersal of protesters.

On July 2, protesters gathered at the parliament building in Tbilisi and again demanded Gakhariya's resignation.

Three persons continue their hunger strike at the parliament building; one of them is already on the seventh day of his hunger strike, said Djaba Zarkua, a participant in the action.

The ruling team has no questions to Gakhariya, the "InterPressNews" writes with reference to Ekaterina Tikaradze, the head of the ministry for refugees from occupied territories, labour, health and social protection of Georgia. She believes that Gakhariya duty at dispersing protesters was the defence of Georgia's statehood, which he performed.
