Manvel Grigoryan's son accused of embezzlement
Karen Grigoryan, a son of General Manvel Grigoryan, a former MP of the National Assembly (Parliament) of Armenia, who had earlier headed the Echmiadzin community, has been charged with embezzling community funds.
According to investigators, Karen Grigoryan's abuses were committed from January 1, 2015, to July 30, 2018, the "Sputnik Armenia" quotes the press service of the Investigating Committee of Armenia as stating on June 28.
Karen's father Manvel Grigoryan, leader of the Yerkrapah Volunteer Union, was detained in June 2018 in a case on illicit arms trafficking and embezzlement on a "very large scale." After searches, law enforcers found in the Manvel Grigoryan's house rounds, ammunition, foodstuffs, and firearms. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan declared that the retired General had embezzled the humanitarian aid intended for the army.
Investigators have established that a number of persons were registered as employees of the Echmiadzin Mayoralty; while doing other work, they received salaries from the city budget. Besides, the community paid the salary to his family's driver, the animal caretaker in the house of Manvel Grigoryan, a security, a welder and other persons, the "Newsarmenia.am" reports.
According to the investigators, in 2013-2018, Grigoryan made annual contributions for the health insurance of his minor children also from the city budget.
The "Newsarmenia.am" reports that a recognizance not to leave the place has been chosen as his freedom restriction measure. Part of the damage caused to the community has already been repaid by Karen Grigoryan.
