Activists start hunger strike in centre of Tbilisi

Today, in Tbilisi, several activists have set up tents in Rustaveli Avenue and announced the beginning of their hunger strike.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in Georgia, protest actions are being held daily starting from June 20, after some MPs expressed their dissatisfaction with the fact that at a meeting of the parliamentary assembly held in the Georgian parliament building, Sergey Gavrilov, a Russian State Duma member, sat in the chair of the Speaker of the Georgian parliament.

The protesters have already succeeded in achieving the resignation of Georgian Parliament Speaker Irakli Kobakhidze. In the evening on June 22, protesters voiced three more demands to the authorities: the release of the detainees, the resignation of Interior Minister Giorgi Gakhariya, and the holding of parliamentary elections under a proportional system.

Today, several activists have declared the hunger strike with the demands for the resignation of Georgian Interior Minister Giorgi Gakhariya, as well as the release of the activists detained during the rally on June 20. The protest action is being held in Rustaveli Avenue in Tbilisi, where the activists have set up their tents. "We hold our rallies for four days, and we see no result. I believe that our form of protest will force the government to meet our demands as soon as possible," said Arveladze, one of the participants of the rally, on the air of the Georgian "Rustavi-2" TV Company.
