Magomed Daudov requests Khizri Shikhsaidov to appease Dagestani residents

Magomed Daudov, Speaker of the Chechen Parliament, accused his Dagestani counterpart Khizri Shikhsaidov and law enforcers of Dagestan of disrupting the demarcation of borders between the two regions and the incident with the demolition of road signs near Kizlyar.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on June 17, Khizri Shikhsaidov, Speaker of the Dagestani People's Assembly, reported on the decision of Alexander Matovnikov, Presidential Plenipotentiary in the North-Caucasian Federal District (NCFD), to suspend the demarcation of land between Dagestan and Chechnya.

On June 10, residents of Kizlyar demolished a road signpost reading "Shelkovskoy District" in the outskirt of the city. On June 11, Magomed Daudov, Speaker of the Chechen Parliament, who arrived at the scene of the incident with a detachment of armed law enforcers, reprimanded the head of the Kizlyar District and treated the incident as "a mess." On June 12, it became known about the demolition of two other signs installed on the border of Chechnya with the Tarumovka District of Dagestan.

According to Magomed Daudov, the responsibility for the conflict in Kizlyar "falls on the leaders and the law enforcement bodies of Dagestan." "There was not a single case when any Chechen citizen committed a provocation or some other action that could violate the interethnic consent or cast a shadow on friendly relations with the fraternal people of Dagestan," said Magomed Daudov in his today's interview as quoted by the website of the Chechen Republic Parliament.

"[In Kizlyar] there were heads of ministries and departments of Dagestan, the Mayor of Kizlyar, the head of the Kizlyar District, and many citizens from among the residents of Dagestan. ... We discussed the situation and agreed that the road signs were in fact installed in the territory of the Chechen Republic. Both sides agreed there was a provocation," the website of the Chechen Parliament quotes Magomed Daudov as saying.

"At least work with your own population and explain to people what and how is happening to avoid similar misunderstandings in the future," said Magomed Daudov.

According to the Speaker of the Chechen Parliament, the initiative to demarcate the borders between Dagestan and Chechnya came from the leaders of Dagestan, who later "refused to work."
