Abkhazian court supports minister in his dispute with authors of history textbook
On June 10, a Sukhumi court has recognized that the school history textbook published by the Ministry for Education and Sciences of Abkhazia contains information that defames the former Prime Minister Leonid Lakerbaya.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on April 24, 2018, the court began considering the lawsuit on the protection of the honour, dignity and business reputation of Lakerbaya. The authors of the textbook, when talking about the political crisis of 2014, stated that Lakerbaya promised to leave his post, but resigned only a year after his promises. Lakerbaya has stated that he had not made such promises, and the authors of the textbook pictured him as a coward.
In April-May 2014, the opposition demanded resignation of Lakerbaya's government. On June 2, 2014, after President Alexander Ankvab resigned, Leonid Lakerbaya wrote a resignation application.
The court has treated the conversation in the office of the secretary of the Security Council, during which, according to Stanislav Lakoba, Leonid Lakerbaya promised to resign, as a private one, which cannot be considered as a state servant's official statement, the "Sputnik-Abkhazia" has explained.
