Days-off on the occasion of Uraza-Bayram announced in Chechnya

The authorities of Chechnya have declared June 4-6 to be days-off in connection with the end of the fasting month of Ramadan. Local residents fear a price rise on the eve of the holiday of Uraza-Bayram.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in 2019, the first day of the fasting Muslim holy month of Ramadan was May 6. On that day, various charity actions and collective Iftars were organized in the republics of Northern Caucasus.

"In Chechnya, June 4-6 will be holidays on the occasion of Uraza-Bayram," the office of the head and the government of Chechnya informed the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent today.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was also informed at the Spiritual Administration of Muslims (SAM, or Muftiate) of Chechnya that this year, the last day of Ramadan fasting will, most likely, be June 3. "In different years, the month of Ramadan can last for 30 or 29 days. It all depends on the appearance of a new moon in the sky," said a SAM source.

Locals fear price hikes. "So far, prices have not risen very noticeably, although fruits and vegetables are already quite expensive. Usually, a price jump occurs in the last two or three days before the Uraza-Bayram. This is a rule, because people start actively buying foodstuffs for the holiday. It happens almost always, and this year is unlikely to be an exception," Zarema, a resident of Chechnya, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
