Resident of Nalchik convicted for participation in Syrian conflict
The Nalchik City Court has sentenced Murat Kalmykov to 2 years and 8 months in prison for links with Syrian militants, the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) has informed today.
According to the Committee, Murat Kalmykov, a resident of Nalchik, from mid-February to early March 2014 took part in the Syrian conflict on the side of militants. After that, under the guise of a refugee from Turkmenistan, Kalmykov was hiding from Russian justice in Germany, but was extradited to his homeland for attraction to criminal liability, says the today's message posted on the website of the ICRF.
The case was initiated under the article of participation in an illegal armed formation (IAF). By the verdict of the Nalchik City Court of Kabardino-Balkaria, Kalmykov was sentenced to two years and eight months in a general-regime colony with a further restriction of freedom for one year, says the message.
