Rally in memory of victims of Caucasian War gathered 3000 people in Nalchik

The equestrian march held today in Nalchik attracted more than 170 horsemen, said Aslan Kudaev, the organizer of the march. A mass march of Circassians in national costumes with Adyg flags followed the horsemen's march, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that yesterday, May 20, 2019, more than 300 people took part in the action commemorating the victims of the Caucasian War in Nalchik.

The Caucasian War, which lasted from 1763 to 1864, put the Adyg nations on the verge of complete extinction. After the war and the mass deportation of Adygs (Circassians) to the Ottoman Empire, just over 50,000 of them remained in their homeland.

At 11:30 a.m. Moscow time, a rally began at "The Tree of Life" monument, which was attended, according to organizers, by about 3000 people.

The rally participants performed a memorial prayer, and then laid flowers to "The Tree of Life".

The Nalchik townspeople, who came to the rally, voiced out, to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, different motives for their participation in the event. Mukhamed Shetov, a pensioner, is sure that the Remembrance Day consolidates Adygs (Circassians) and contributes to the revival of traditions.

A female resident of Nalchik named Khaishat said that in the tragic Caucasian War, the nation "survived, withstood and revived," which means that on this day there is a reason for celebrations.

Should Russia recognize the genocide of Adygs, the consequences of this war would be forgotten faster, Yuri Kagermazov, a local resident, has suggested.
