NKR police warn detained activists

Four protesters demanding resignation of Bako Saakyan, President of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR), who were detained by policemen on May 20, received verbal warnings. Activists insist that they did not violate the Law "On Freedom of Assembly".

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on May 20, at least 17 activists went out into the central square of Stepanakert, the NKR capital, and demanded from Bako Saakyan to resign. Policemen detained four of them and released them from the police station three hours later. The police have stated that the action was held in a prohibited place.

The detainees were released from the police around 11:00 p.m. on May 20 with an administrative penalty, the NKR police told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent. "If the residents of Stepanakert continue violating the Law 'On Freedom of Assembly', then, of course, the police will take appropriate measures to observe the rule of law," a police source has added.

The activists received verbal warnings about administrative offenses, Tigran Petrosyan, one of the detainees, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent today. "I did nothing that violates the rule of law," Mr Petrosyan insists.
