Participants of equestrian march cross central Nalchik

Today, policemen blocked the centre of Nalchik, freeing the way for participants of the equestrian march commemorating the victims of the Caucasian War.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that yesterday, May 20, 2019, more than 300 people took part in the action commemorating the victims of the Caucasian War in Nalchik.

The Caucasian War, which lasted from 1763 to 1864, put the Adyg nations on the verge of complete extinction. After the war and the mass deportation of Adygs (Circassians) to the Ottoman Empire, just over 50,000 of them remained in their homeland.

As part of the memorial events, today, the city has held an equestrian march along Lenin Avenue with subsequent laying flowers at "The Tree of Life" monument.

The equestrian march in memory of the victims of the Caucasian War began in Nalchik at 10:00 a.m. Moscow time, after a mourning march with the participation of young people. The horse riders marched from the square in front of the hippodrome along the Baksan Highway, then along the Ossetian Street and Lenin Avenue to Lermontov Street, and "The Tree of Life" monument.

During the equestrian march, streets were blocked for motor vehicles, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.
