On May 13-19, there were no victims of armed conflict in Northern Caucasus

During the week of May 13-19, 2019, in the course of the armed conflict in Northern Caucasus no casualties or victims were reported. These are the results of the calculations run by the "Caucasian Knot" based on its own materials and information from other open sources.

Detentions

On May 13, information appeared about the detention, in Chechnya in April, of nine militants with weapons and grenades. According to sources, a 21-year-old native of Chechnya created, at the end of the winter of 2019, a "militant grouping in Grozny." Apart from the founder, the grouping included eight persons. In April, law enforcers detained the alleged militants and seized their ammunition and weapons. The detainees are charged with organizing of and participating in an illegal armed formation (IAF), and illegal arms dealing. The credibility of reports about the detention of IAF members in Chechnya was doubted by Sergey Goncharov, the president of the "Alfa" veterans' association, and Gennady Gudkov, a retired FSB colonel. Alexander Perendjiev, a military political analyst, has suggested that people disliked by Chechen authorities could be declared militants.

On May 15, law enforcers detained an alleged member of the "Islamic State" (IS), a terrorist organization banned in Russia by the court, who had planned to commit terror acts in the Stavropol Territory. According to law enforcers, a resident of the Stavropol Territory had sworn to the IS and planned terror acts in the region. He is charged under the article on participation in a terrorist organization.
