Painters' family from Krasnodar achieves asylum in Sweden

A court in Sweden has ruled to grant political asylum to Krasnodar painters Alexei Knedlyakovsky and Lusine Djanyan, known for their oppositional actions.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on December 20, 2018, the Swedish Migration Service refused to provide asylum to the spouses, which angered local social network users.

The Migration Court has ruled that Knedlyakovsky and Djanyan have the right to political asylum, the "Mediazona" writes.

The couple left Russia in 2017, as they feared for their safety, the Radio Liberty reports.

In 2013, Lusine Djanyan was dismissed from the Krasnodar University; she linked her dismissal with her works in support of the Pussy Riot group. In December 2016, the court sentenced Alexei Knedlyakovsky, a blogger and a painter to 15 days of arrest for petty hooliganism for posting a photo of the monument to Felix Dzerzhinsky in social networks with a Catholic cross attached to the base.
