Social networks support refusal of Irganai residents to pay for electricity

The demands of the residents of the village of Irganai to receive compensations for their flooded land plots and gardens are fair; but people may be left without power supplies, if they refuse to pay, social networks users have suggested.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on April 26, Irganai villages, at their meeting with the head of the Untsukul District, announced that they would not pay for electricity until they received compensations for their land plots flooded during the construction of the Irganai hydropower plant (HPP).

The construction of the Irganai HPP was started in the 1980s and ended in 2008. After its commissioning, the gardens of local residents with the harvest, houses and farmland went under water. Residents of the villages in the flood zone had repeatedly held protest actions with the demand of compensation.

The flooding of arable land plots and gardens during the construction of the above HPP deprived local residents of their livelihood, while the operation of the HPP does not compensate for their losses, the debaters in social networks have stated.

The promise of the head of the Untsukul District to take the villagers' problems under his personal control caused scepticism. "Don't believe the words 'under personal control.' It's just a hoax in order to win time," wrote the user dovolni8298.

Some users suggest that Irganai villagers may completely lose their power supplies.

"It seems to me that soon they will remain not only without compensations, but also without electricity," noted the user enterbox.
