"Mothers of Beslan" gets MIA's support in struggle for checkpoint

The Chief Directorate for the North-Caucasian Federal District (NFCD) of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) found rational an appeal filed by the NGO "Mothers of Beslan" with a request to preserve the "Chermen" checkpoint at the border with Chechnya, a member of the NGO reports today. The "Mothers of Beslan" opposed the Ramzan Kadyrov's call to remove all checkpoints between the regions of Northern Caucasus.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on December 6, 2018, Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov called for the removal of all checkpoints on the roads between the regions of the NCFD.

Today, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent has been informed by Aneta Gadieva, the deputy chair of the NGO "Mothers of Beslan", that the Russian MIA's Chief Directorate for the NCFD supported the NGO's appeal and found it rational to preserve the "Chermen" checkpoint.

"We speak against the removal of the checkpoint, since we treat it as some kind of security guarantee. It is impossible to prevent all incidents, but there are examples when the checkpoint stopped terrorists and suicide bombers and a number of terror acts were prevented. We all are aware that there are a lot of people from Northern Caucasus in the ranks of the IS ('Islamic State', a terrorist organization, banned in Russia by the court, ‑ note of the 'Caucasian Knot'), and there are no reasons to relax. Therefore, we appealed to the Minister of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation. We have got an answer stating that the MIA supports our initiative," explained Aneta Gadieva.
