Mikhail Benyash to get compensation for his arrest

Today, advocate Mikhail Benyash has succeeded in seeking a penalty of 100,000 roubles to be imposed on the federal treasury for his two-week administrative arrest after a rally in Krasnodar.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on September 9, 2018, Mikhail Benyash was detained in Krasnodar together with participants of an unsanctioned rally against the pension reform. According to Mikhail Benyash, he was beaten after his detention. He served 14 days of his administrative arrest in the case on disobedience to a policeman, but on December 19, the Krasnodar Territorial Court cancelled a decision on the Mikhail Benyash's arrest.

"The Pervomaiski Court of Krasnodar obliged the federal treasury to pay an amount of moral damage totalling to 100,000 roubles for 14 days of the administrative arrest, which I got after the events of September 9, 2018, when I had been detained and beaten," Mikhail Benyash wrote on his Facebook page.

He has also noted that the Prosecutor's Office requested the court to appoint half as much compensation, totalling to 50,000 roubles. "However, the judge considered that the arrest of an advocate is twice as expensive," Mikhail Benyash concluded.

Representatives of Mikhail Benyash requested the payment of 500,000 roubles, advocate Alexei Avanesyan added in his comments under the Mikhail Benyash's post.
