Archaeologists tell about ancient castles in Kashatag District of Nagorno-Karabakh
A photo exhibition in Stepanakert presents images of 15 castles found in Nagorno-Karabakh over the past eight years. Local authorities hope that the new monuments will be interesting for tourists.
The photo exhibition "Fortresses of the Liberated Territories of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh)" was opened on April 18 in the Stepanakert Palace of Culture and Youth.
"In total, there are 353 ancient Armenian monuments in the Kashatag District," said Lernik Ovannisyan, the Minister of Culture, Youth and Tourism of Nagorno-Karabakh.
He has added that now over 4300 historical monuments have been registered in Nagorno-Karabakh.
More than 60 ancient Armenian fortresses were discovered in the Kashatag District, said Gagik Sargsyan, an archaeologist.
These monuments can become interesting objects for specialists' studies, as well as attract tourists, said Stepan Sargsyan, the head of the administration of the Kashatag District.
"The nature and historical monuments attract both foreign and local tourists," Stepan Sargsyan told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
