In Dagestan, three activists released after arrests

Six participants of a fight in the Orta-Tyube village in the Nogai District of Dagestan, provoked by the land conflict, are still being kept at a detention centre in Kizlyar. Three detainees, whose terms of arrest expired, are released.

An advocate called the arrests of the fight participants a severe punishment and announced his intention to challenge the court's decision. The conflict between villagers and tenants of land, which led to detentions, has been lasting for two years already. The villagers and the head of the village hope for a peaceful solution to the conflict.

On April 13, nine people were arrested for 3-10 days after the fight which occurred in the village of Orta-Tyube on April 12. The conflict was provoked by a complaint of a tractor driver, from whom local residents demanded to stop working on arable land. The villagers believe the land is leased with violations.

At night on April 16, three detained villagers were released from detention centres, advocate Marat Djumaniyazov reported.
