Five persons hospitalized after conflict in Armenian village
On April 13, a shootout broke out in the village of Zartonk of the Armavir Region of Armenia, during the conflict of supporters and opponents of the village elder. Two participants of the conflict, including the gunman, were detained; five people were hospitalized, the police and the Investigating Committee have reported.
The incident occurred in the village of Zartonk, where part of the residents demand the resignation of the community elder, Paruir Sargsyan. They explained their protest by the fact that he has been heading the village for 23 years. In the morning, supporters of the elder attacked one of the protesters, as a result of which he was hospitalized, Gamlet Abovyan, a villager of Zartonk, who opposes Paruir Sargsyan, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
"Then the elder's grandson opened fire from a hunting rifle, and made several shots at the feet of people. As a result, another person was wounded," said Abovyan.
Five persons were hospitalized after the village conflict; two of them with gunshot wounds, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed at the press service of the Armenian Police.
"Two participants of the fight were detained, including the elder's grandson. An investigation was launched," said Naira Arutyunyan, the head of the Information and Public Relations Division of the Investigating Committee of Armenia.
