Protest action after transgender's speech in parliament held in Yerevan

About 200 people took part in the protest action after the speech of the transgender, Lilit Martirosyan, the chair of the NGO "Party of Law" at the National Assembly (Parliament) of Armenia.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on April 6, at the human rights hearings at the Armenian Parliament, Lilit Martirosyan made a speech, which caused a mixed reaction among social network users.

On April 8, several initiative groups held an action in front of the National Assembly of Armenia, protesting against the transgender's speech from the parliamentary rostrum, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, who was present at the venue, reports.

The action was organized by the "Artsiv-30. Ararat" Union of Veterans of Karabakh War and by the NGO "Volya" (Will).

The protesters demanded that the MPs of the ruling faction "My Step" come out to them and explain who had invited the transgender to the hearings.

In the opinion of Vaagn Chakhalyan, the coordinator of the "Volya", the transgender's performance at the parliament is contrary to the Armenian Constitution.

"Article 42 of the Constitution of Armenia states that freedom of self-expression may be restricted by law if it threatens the state security, morality, and violates the rights and freedom of others," he told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
