On April 1-7, 2019, two persons fell victim to armed conflict in Northern Caucasus

During the week of April 1-7, 2019, two persons were killed in the armed conflict in Northern Caucasus. No wounded were reported. These are the results of the calculations run by the "Caucasian Knot" based on its own materials and information from other open sources.

Both killed men were suspected members of the armed underground in Kabardino-Balkaria.

NAC reports two killed militants in Kabardino-Balkaria

In the morning on April 2, in the city of Baksan, policemen stopped a VAZ car for inspection. A driver of the car opened fire and after that he managed to flee the place. The policemen were not injured, and the search for the attacker was organized.

At night on April 3, in the Blagoveschensk-Prokhadnoye highway in Kabardino-Balkaria, law enforcers attempted to stop a car, in which, according to the National Antiterrorist Committee (NAC), suspects involved in the attack on law enforcers in Baksan were travelling. As a result of a shootout, two suspected militants were killed. They were identified: according to the NAC, the suspects were involved in the terrorist organization "Islamic State" (IS, ISIL) banned in Russia. In a house of one of the killed suspects, law enforcers discovered a hidden underground room for secret living. One of the suspected militants, a 29-year-old local resident, shelled policemen in Baksan on April 2, the law enforcement bodies reported.

No civilians were injured and there were no casualties among law enforcers.

Former Makhachkala police chief suspected of financing militants

A night on March 31, at the Makhachkala airport, FSB officers detained Raip Ashikov, who used to be the chief of the Makhachkala UVD (District Interior). On April 1, the court arrested the former police officer for two months. Raip Ashikov is suspected of involvement in financing militants together with kidnapped and then arrested Omar Abdurashidov, sources reported. Raip Ashikov himself pleaded not guilty.
