Ingush activist Akhmed Barakhoev refuses to stop hunger strike
Akhmed Barakhoev, an Ingush elder, arrested after the protest action in Magas, told his advocate that he would stop his hunger strike only after meeting rights defenders.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on April 4, 2019, Akhmed Barakhoev declared a hunger strike in his custody in Nalchik. His relatives said that the state of his health is of their serious concern. The hunger strike is Barakhoev's attempt to fight for the rights of the detainees, Ruslan Mutsolgov, the head of the Ingush branch of the "Yabloko" Party, is sure.
According to the advocate, Fatima Urusova, the Ingush elder called his hunger strike a well-balanced decision with a political background.
Akhmed Barakhoev was examined by a doctor, who "noted that his vital features are within the normal range," adding that the elder's mood is good, mostly because the staff of the detention centre is treating him with due respect.
Tatiana Okushko, an advocate, said that during Barakhoev's detention and search, law enforcers made a number of violations; in particular, they took away his mobile phone and did not allow him to call an advocate.
