Six participants of "Solidarity with Workers" action detained in Tbilisi
The action demanding to protect workers' rights held in Tbilisi after the death of two builders at a construction site, ended in detention of six persons.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on March 31, during construction works in Tbilisi, a soil collapse occurred; and two men perished under rubbles.
In March 2018, a law on labour safety was adopted in Georgia, but trade unions stated that it failed to meet international standards and seriously restricted the work of labour safety inspectors.
The rally under the slogan "Solidarity with Workers" was organized by NGOs and activists, the "News-Georgia" reports.
The demonstrators took to the roadway; and the traffic was blocked. There was a clash with policemen, during which several persons were detained, including Vakhushti Menabde, a member of the NGO "Georgian Young Lawyers' Association"; David Subeliani, an activist of the "White Noise" movement; and representatives of the Centre for Human Rights Studies and Monitoring.
Also, the protesters damaged the facade of the building, during the construction of which the workers perished, the Georgian "Channel One" has reported.
