Yerevan residents commemorate victims of 2016 April war in NKR

In Yerevan, the participants of the memory action gathered in Freedom Square, and lit candles and torches to commemorate those who perished in the April 2016 war in the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR); then, they went to the military cemetery.

As the "Caucasian Knot" has reported, on April 2-5, 2016, an escalation of the Karabakh conflict occurred, after which the parties announced a ceasefire. However, shelling attacks did not stop.

According to Azerbaijan and the NKR, from March 31, 2017, to April 1, 2018, 43 persons perished in the conflict zone – 41 military servicemen and two civilians.

The organizers of the action, members of the "Bonfire" Youth-Patriotic Club, noted that "they came to the action not to mourn, but to be proud of their heroes."

Gegam Oganyan, the head of the Club, has noted that residents of Yerevan-participants in the "April War" and activists took part in the action.

"For me, the revolution in Armenia began not in 2018 (the so-called "velvet revolution" in Armenia, – note of the "Caucasian Knot"), but in 2016, when our brave guys suppressed the war," said Gagik Ginosyan, a participant in the action.
