Artists persuade Nikol Pashinyan to intervene in scandal with dismissal of theatre director
After a meeting with participants of the protest action, who expressed their indignation about the dismissal of Konstantin Orbelyan and demanded the resignation of the Armenian Minister of Culture, Nikol Pashinyan agreed not to appoint a new director of the Opera Theatre. The Prime Minister offered the artists to refute the arguments of the Minister of Culture, who dismissed Konstantin Orbelyan.
Earlier, the Armenian Minister of Culture has dismissed Konstantin Orbelyan from his post of the director of the National Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre. The artists and cultural figures were outraged by the dismissal of Konstantin Orbelyan and decided to appeal to Nikol Pashinyan with a request to cancel the order of Nazeni Garibyan, the acting Minister of Culture, and dismiss her.
The Prime Minister has assured the protestors that if even one of the justifications voiced by the Ministry of Culture appears to be false, then the guilty person will be dismissed.
The Armenian Ministry of Culture has explained the dismissal of Konstantin Orbelyan by the fact that, according to the law, the head of the National Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre cannot do other paid work, except for scientific, creative, and pedagogical activities.
