Resident of Dagestan sentenced to 24 years in prison for assaulting law enforcers

Today, the North-Caucasian District Military Court has found Shamil Yusupov guilty of creating a gang, attempting to kill policemen and stealing weapons, and sentenced him to imprisonment at a high-security colony.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 1, 2017, after the murder of two district policemen in the Babayurt and Kizilyurt Districts of Dagestan, these districts were put under the counterterrorist operation (CTO) regime. During the CTO, two people were killed in the Babayurt District; later, they were identified as 29-year-old Djumageldi Adjiniyazov, 29, and Kamal Ibragimov. Law enforcers announced a search for the third alleged militant, a 28-year-old Shamil Yusupov.

The court has sentenced Yusupov to 24 years in a high-security colony, a spokesman for the above court told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent today.

"Until October 23, 2017, Yusupov was hiding from law enforcers, but then, he voluntarily appeared at the Dagestani FSB branch and confessed to what had happened. However, at the trial, he refused to plead guilty and stated that he had committed no crimes, had no weapons, stuck to no extremist viewpoints and failed to take part in the gang," an employee of the court's press service told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
