Ex-inmate adjudges 50,000 roubles for torture in Elista colony

The Elista City Court has reduced the amount of compensation for moral harm in favour of the Akhmed Saliev, a former prisoner, from 2 million to 50,000 roubles, the "Zone of Law" has informed.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in 2016, Akhmed Saliev, who was in a correctional colony in Kalmykia, complained about being beaten up by a prison employee. In June 2018, this employee was sentenced to four years in prison.

The court has charged the above 50,000 roubles from the Federal Penitentiary Service (known as FSIN) of Russia at the expense of the state treasury in favour of Akhmed Saliev. Victoria Sheveleva, a lawyer, collaborating with the human rights organization "Zone of Law", who representative Saliev's interests, has stated that the judgement would be appealed against at the Supreme Court of Kalmykia.

The judge reduced the claimed compensation by 40 times, as the victim demanded 2 million roubles, says the today's message posted on the "Zone of Law" website.
