Supposed accomplices to suicide bomber Spiridonova detained in Dagestan

At least three people have been detained in the Khasavyurt District on suspicion of complicity with Karina Spiridonova, who, according to the Chechen authorities, committed a suicide bombing in November 2018 at a checkpoint in Grozny, said a law enforcement source.

According to Chechen law enforcers, on November 17, 2018, near a checkpoint in Grozny, a woman blew herself up after policemen saw an improvised explosive device (IED) on her and fired a warning shot. The bomber was identified by her passports as the 25-year-old Karina Spiridonova.

According to the source, law enforcers were studying those with whom Spiridonova contacted in the republic.

"In Dagestan, Spiridonova managed to get married; she had her Sharia marriage registered. People who had contacts with her were checked. As a result, several persons were established," the source told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, noting that in total three people were detained in the Khasavyurt District. "They are her Sharia husband and two others who had close contacts with them," the source said.

During a search, he added, components for making IEDs were found on the detainees.
