In Armenia, doctors find no grounds for release of General Manvel Grigoryan

Examinations showed that General Manvel Grigoryan accused of embezzlement does not suffer of any diseases incompatible with the arrest, report investigators. Manvel Grigoryan should be released, since the arrest adversely affects his health, the defence insists.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that from February 8 to March 4, Manvel Grigoryan was treated in a civilian medical centre, and after that, despite complaints filed by the defence, he was returned to arrest. After the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) had communicated a complaint about the Manvel Grigoryan's detention, investigators created a commission to check the defendant's health state.

In June 2018, Manvel Grigoryan was detained in the case on illegal arm trafficking and embezzlement on a "particularly large scale." Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated that the retired General had embezzled humanitarian aid assigned to the army.

According to the examinations, Manvel Grigoryan is not diagnosed with any diseases which would prevent his keeping under arrest, the press service for the Special Investigating Service of Armenia reports.

The defence's position does not contradict the results of the examination, since the defence did not talk about any diseases from the official list, explained advocate Arsen Mkrtchyan.

"The state bears responsibility to secure that the person's health should remain at the same level as it was before arrest," the advocate noted.

In comparison with June 2018, the Manvel Grigoryan's blood sugar index significantly increased, and the General became dependent on insulin intake, the advocate stated.

Let us remind you that on March 15, the court extended the Manvel Grigoryan's arrest for two months.
