Defence of Armenian Police head demands to interrogate Pashinyan
The former head of the police used light and noise grenades to disperse demonstrators in April 2018, investigators assert. Levon Eranosyan would not plead guilty; his defence demands to interrogate the Armenian Prime Minister, Nikol Pashinyan.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on April 22, 2018, the police used special means against the march organized by Pashinyan, who was elected as Premier after mass protests.
During the actions, the police forces were under command of Lieutenant General Levon Eranosyan. According to investigators, on April 16 and 22, 2018, when dispersing the marchers, he ordered to use eight light-noise grenades, as a result of which over 20 people were injured, including heavy ones.
Eranosyan had no powers to use such grenades, the "News-Armenia" reports with reference to the Special Investigation Service (SIS) of Armenia.
The defence has appealed to the General Prosecutor's Office (GPO), demanding to stop the case against Eranosyan, said Tigran Safaryan, one of the advocates. According to his story, the cases of violence used by demonstrators and the use of special means by other law enforcers were not studied.
