Lazio recognizes Armenian Genocide

The parliament of the Italian Region of Lazio adopted a resolution recognizing the massacre of Armenians in the Ottoman Empire as genocide.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on May 3, 2017, the Armenian Genocide was recognized by the Italian city of Tolfa.

Over 1.5 million Armenians killed in Ottoman Turkey in 1915 are canonized in Armenia. The Turkish authorities do not recognize those events as genocide.

The initiative to condemn the Armenian genocide was submitted to the Lazio Region parliament by its member Sergio Pirozzi. The document, adopted on March 18, was regarded as "a warning to youth and future generations," reports the website "Comunita Armena".

The council of the Armenian community in Rome thanked all the members of the Lazio Region parliament, the "News-Armenia" reports.

The Armenian Genocide was recognized by more than 20 countries, including Russia, as well as 43 of the 50 US states and the District of Columbia.
