"Restart Times" activists accused of trying to kidnap blogger in Yerevan

Six members of the student movement "Restart Times" were charged with attempting to kidnap Narek Malyan, an opposition video blogger.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that at night on March 4, activists tried to place into a trash can Narek Malyan, their opponent in the conflict over the resignation of the Yerevan State University's rector. The activists explained their actions by the "logic of revolution," but Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan condemned them. A criminal case on hooliganism was instituted. The activists said they did not regret their deeds, since it was a political action.

The press service of the General Prosecutor's Office of Armenia reported that the activists signed recognizance not to leave.

Members of the movement "Restart Times" and other students demand the resignation of Aram Simonyan, the rector of the Yerevan State University (YeSU). They are dissatisfied with the low quality of education, lack of academic freedom, and inappropriate expenditures.
