In Yerevan, number of victims in protest action grows

A policeman has become the third victim in clashes between law enforcers and opponents of the demolition of a cafe in Yerevan.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that today, owners and employees of the cafe blocked Mashtots Avenue. The police pushed them away from the roadway, and 16 activists were detained. A protester and a policeman were injured during the clashes. They are hospitalized.

According to various estimates, about 100-200 protesters gathered on the square. During the clash, one more policeman was injured. His colleagues used a bench to transport him to an ambulance car.

The number of detainees reached 19, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed by the press service of the police.

Staff members of the Office of the Armenian Ombudsman visited detainees at a police station. According to them, 17 people were detained for disobeying the lawful demands of the police, one ‑ for deliberately destroying property, and one more ‑ for using violence against a public official. Two detainees still remain at the police station, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent has been informed at the Ombudsman's Office.
