Prosecutor promises to check complaints on persecution of mosque-goers in Makhachkala

Delegates of the Tangim mosque complained to the Prosecutor of Dagestan about regular raids held by law enforcers and detentions of believers. The Prosecutor promises to render his assistance, but if the pressure on the believers does not stop, the leaders and the public council of the Tangim mosque will seek a meeting with Vladimir Vasiliev, report participants of the meeting.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in general, law enforcers carry out raids near the Makhachkala mosque in General Omarov Street every Friday.

Human rights defenders treat detentions of parishioners near the mosque as a form of pressure on the Salafi community of Dagestan and as a catalyst for the radicalization of its members.

On March 12, five delegates of the Tangim mosque met Denis Popov, Prosecutor of Dagestan.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by Akhmed Chililov, a member of the Tangim mosque's public council, the meeting was also devoted to the problem of regular raids held by law enforcers from the Dagestani Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) near the mosque.

After listening to the mosque's delegates, Denis Popov promised to "correct the situation" and noted that he needed time to do that.

According to Akhmed Chililov, if the situation around the mosque is not normalized and policemen do not stop holding raid events, the leaders and public council of the mosque will seek a meeting with Vladimir Vasiliev, the leader of Dagestan.
