Native of Pankisi Gorge killed in Syria

Amiran Borchashvili, a citizen of Georgia, a native of the Dumashturi village in the Pankisi Gorge, who fought on the side of the "Islamic State" (IS), a terrorist organization banned in Russia by the court, was killed in Syria, the State Security Service (SSS) of Georgia reports.

The death of Amiran Borchashvili was confirmed by the State Security Service of Georgia.

In 2015, Amiran Borchashvili left Georgia together with his cousin Aslanbeg Borchashvili. Earlier, both young men studied at the Telavi State University, the "Georgia Online" reports.

The brothers first left for Turkey and then moved to Syria. That happened after the Georgian SSS detained Ayuf Borchashvili, the former imam of the Djokolo village in the Pankisi Gorge, on the charge of facilitating terrorism, the "News-Georgia" reports.

Amiran and Aslanbeg Borchashvili fought in Syria on the side of the "Islamic State" (IS), a terrorist organization banned in Russia by the court. Aslanbeg Borchashvili was killed in Syria in June 2016, the "News-Georgia" reports.

Amiran and Aslanbeg Borchashvili were among the five young people who, according to the Georgian SSS, were recruited by Ayuf Borchashvili, the imam in the Pankisi Gorge, and induced by him to join the "Islamic State" (IS), a terrorist organization banned in Russia by the court, the "Echo of the Caucasus" reports.
