Yerevan activists hold rally against territorial concessions to Azerbaijan

In Yerevan, about 2000 people gathered for an action held on the anniversary of the Sumgait pogroms. The activists have demanded from the authorities to make no territorial concessions in the resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh, activists hold annual events dedicated to the pogroms in Sumgait.

The Sumgait pogroms lasted from the evening of February 26 to February 29, 1988, and they were the first mass explosion of ethnic violence on the eve of the collapse of the Soviet Union. The pogroms led to the first flows of refugees from Azerbaijan to Nagorno-Karabakh and Armenia, whereas the first refugees from Armenia had already arrived in Azerbaijan by that time. According to Armenian sources and eyewitnesses, several hundred people fell victim to the pogroms, and of them, about 100 people were killed.

According to organizers of the action, about 2000 people have attended the today's rally on Freedom Square in Yerevan. The rally was initiated by the organizations "Armenian National Guard" and "Will" under the slogan "No territories for concessions".
