Investigation of oppositionist Alexei Navalny leads to demands to punish Caucasian clans
The investigation conducted by the oppositionist Alexei Navalny about the influential clans in Karachay-Cherkessia has triggered a sharp reaction of social network users, who called on the authorities to clear out the situation.
In his investigation entitled "Bentley, palaces, murders; how Northern Caucasus is organized", posted on the YouTube, Mr Navalny traces the kinship ties among "influential clans in Karachay-Cherkessia." The Kaitov family is considered in most detail. According to the Navalny's Anti-Corruption Fund, family members drive expensive cars and live in luxury houses.
According to his story, social networks have posted photos, in which the owner of the house is depicted with the head of the republic, Rashid Temrezov. In 2014, Rauf Arashukov, the ill-known Senator from Karachay-Cherkessia, signed his photo with Aliy Kaitov: "My brother."
The investigation mentions that Aliy Kaitov was released in less than 10 years. It also tells about his uncle Magomed Kaitov, who, according to Navalny, was called the "energy king" of Northern Caucasus, while Russian President, Vladimir Putin, accused him of involvement in thefts.
Some social network debaters have noted that despite the indignation and appeals to punish those whom Navalny mentioned, the situation is unlikely to change.
Users have also urged Navalny to conduct an investigation about clans in other republics of Northern Caucasus.
