Advocate states torture of person detainee in Dagestan

Law enforcers have tortured Abdul Magomedov, a resident of Khasavyurt, with electric current, trying to knock out a confession to the creation of an illegal armed formation (IAF), the defence has stated. Other confessions to this case were given by two local residents.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on February 4, law enforcers conducted a search in the house of Abdula Magomedov, an 18-year-old Khasavyurt resident, and detained him. His relatives could not establish where he was for three days, and turned to the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial". On February 8, Magomedov was arrested for two months on charges of creating an IAF and illegal arms dealing.

After his detention, law enforcers "used physical and psychological violence and tortured Magomedov with electric current," Madina Khanmagomedova, his advocate, has stated.

An alleged Magomedov's accomplice, a 20-year-old Khanmagomed Isubov, has also pleaded guilty.

Investigators consider another Khasavyurt resident, Sergey Kourdakov, who was detained on February 4, to be the organizer of the bandit grouping. During the interrogation, he confessed to the creation of an IAF, either with the aim of leaving for Syria and joining terrorists, or with the aim of attacking law enforcers in Dagestan. Kourdakov has stated that he had involved Magomedov and Isubov in the IAF.

During the search, a grenade was found in Magomedov's house, which, according to his relatives, was planted there by law enforcers.
